To share these Romantic Grandparent Esplanade portraits with you is truly a dream come true! Mainly because these are my Grandparents Mick and Heather, or known to us as Nana and Pops. They live in Palmerston North in New Zealand and I hadn’t seen them in 6 years. My hubby and I recently just got back from a NZ trip where we spent endless time with these two lovelies catching up and reminiscing, it was truly the trip of a lifetime. You can see more pictures of our travels here.
Of course while I was in Palmerston North and Manawatu I had to take some portraits of them. They thought I would just snap one or two pictures, but of course they were in for a wild ride! I desperately wanted some romantic pictures of the two of them, as the last time they had pictures like that would have at their own wedding. I wanted to capture a glimpse of their love together, the giggles I have seen from a distance and the sweet smiles they often share with one-another. So we found the perfect Rose Garden in the Palmerston North at the Esplanade, it was the biggest Rose Garden I’ve ever seen. We mostly went to walk around and literally smell the roses and squeeze in a few portraits at the same time. I had to stop myself from taking too many rose pictures, oh how I adore floral photography.
Pops is always full of mischief and has been as long as I can remember. He thought that spending time close to my Nana was the most fabulous thing ever, there may or may not have even been a little butt pinch along the way. It gave me so much joy capturing these two and their long-lasting romantic love! I asked Pops to whisper sweet nothings into Nans’ ear, and at first he just giggled, but then he told her that she was the most beautiful woman in the whole wide world. Insert a few happy tears and heart-warming smiles, that was so special to witness. I am so grateful to have these memories. I still see such a wonderful – deep and unending – love between these two, which I will be forever grateful is my legacy.
To end it all once we left the Esplanade and got home, Nans got to see the pictures herself she said, “I love these photos, we both look like we did when we were young, so happy, and in-love.” I adore that she said this, as she got to see a glimpse of how I see them always, young, happy, and in-love!
